Municipality of MOYDROY

Assuming that Myrina is the cosmopolitan area of Lemnos, then Moudros has its own specific characteristics, based on its preferential position. A lounging atmosphere is diffused around its picturesque port, which is indicated mainly for an afternoon laziness. Here, prepare your photographic camera and take position at the oldest castle of Lemnos, which is built high on a hill. When the sun meets the horizon, the view is stirring and it’s worth recording it.
A walk southeasterly of the city will bring you at the Allied Cemetery, which reminds you all those who lost their life during the historical expedition and battle of Kallipolis. Here also, the famous naval battle of Lemnos took place.
It is the capital of the Municipality of Moudros, which is situated easterly of the gulf since the 14th century.
The bay of Moudros constitutes one of the largest natural ports of Greece, but also a rich wetland. Before you arrive at the village and inside the gulf, you may see Koukonisi, a small islet that joins the land via a narrow earth strip. In recent years, there take place archaeological excavations, with findings of great value and for this reason you are not allowed to visit it.
